The Texas Affordable Baccalaureate Program

The Texas Affordable Baccalaureate (TAB) Program began with a challenge – a challenge to rethink course delivery and affordability in ways that could help bring higher education within reach of more Texans.

South Texas College and Texas A&M University-Commerce accepted the challenge and worked with the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board to launch the state’s first competency-based bachelor’s degrees in 2014. Today, Texas has thirteen TAB programs across the state.

Through a combination of competency-based and traditional courses, online and in-person instruction, academic credit for work experience, and low-cost tuition structures, TAB programs offer an accessible bachelor's degree that can save Texas students thousands of dollars and semesters of time.
